Patrick
Arbore, EdD
Dr. Arbore is the founder and director of Institute on Aging's Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention and Grief Relates Services (CESP), and serves as the Director of Professional Development at Institute on Aging. He is also a Senior Lecturer in the Human Services Division at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont and a Part-Time Lecturer in the School of Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley.
Cristina Flores, PhD, RN
Cristina is the Director of Health Services Research at Institute on Aging in San Francisco, an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, and a lecturer in the Gerontology Program at San Francisco State University. She has been a registered nurse for 22 years, a certified public health nurse for 18 years, and has 6 years experience in home health nursing. In addition, she has been a Residential Care/Assisted Living (RC/AL) owner/operator for 15 years. She holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing from California State University, Dominquez Hills, a Master's of Arts Degree in Gerontology with an emphasis in Long-Term Care Administration from San Francisco State University, and a doctorate degree in Nursing Health Policy from the University of California, San Francisco. She has completed several studies relative to quality in RC/AL and other long-term care settings. Dr. Flores' current research projects include Developing a Consumer Information Website for Residential Care for the Elderly (California Health Care Foundation), A Community Approach to Improve Palliative Care Access (Sutter Health Institute for Research and Education), Linking Affordable Senior Housing and Services (The SCAN Foundation and Institute on Aging), and the Northern California Geriatric Education Center (UCSF). Her published work includes several journal articles, two book chapters, and a textbook on RC/AL facilities and quality of care.
Sharon Gorman - PT, DPTSc, GCS
Sharon is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at Samuel Merritt University. She received her DPTSc at UCSF/SFSU, an MS in Health Science at SFSU, and a BS in Physical Therapy from Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles. Clinically, her area of expertise is acute care physical therapy having worked in a variety of different types of hospitals from large academic teaching hospitals to small community hospitals. Her clinical work is currently limited to research in sitting balance testing and the Samuel Merritt Neuro Clinic.
Advanced Training/Certification: A board certified Geriatric
Clinical Specialist in physical therapy; Sharon also holds advanced certification
and training in assessment and treatment of vestibular disorders and in
neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) approaches for adults with hemiplegia.
She is a credentialed Clinical Instructor and also was a Trainer for the
APTA's Clinical Instructor Education & Credentialing Program.
Karyn
Skultety, Ph.D.
Dr. Karyn Skultety is the Director of Clinical and Community Services
at the Institute on Aging. Dr. Skultety received her doctoral degree at
the University of Massachusetts and completed both an internship and postdoctoral
fellowship in geropsychology. She is a licensed clinical psychologist
and has worked in research, private practice and in a staff position
at the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center at the VA Palo
Alto Healthcare System. Dr. Skultety came to Institute on Aging in 2008
and served as a Supervising Psychologist and the Director of Behavioral
Health for the Lifeways PACE program prior to becoming the Director of
Clinical and Community Services. In 2010, Dr. Skultety received the California
Association of Adult Day Services Quality Award for Clinical Care for
her innovative and exemplary work enhancing mental health care in Adult
Day Services. She regularly provides education and staff training related
addressing behavioral and mental health issues in the aging population.
